Call to Worship

Standard

Here’s what I am going to read at the beginning of worship Sunday.

Why are you here? Why are we here? This week I came across this admonition:

“So walk into whatever church, job, house or store you’re gonna walk into this weekend pointing your ever-making-a-big-deal-out-of-stuff HEART at the one true God, and make a Big deal out of Him, and find SATISFACTION in HIM…”

Is that not who we are? Aren’t we “ever-making-a-big-deal-out-of-stuff”? “Stuff” that doesn’t really matter? …our tastes, our preferences, our opinions, our expectations, our looks, our cars, our houses, our jobs, our hobbies… Where are we going to sit? What are we going to sing? What are we going to do? What do I like or dislike? Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera…

Aren’t these little things we are so concerned about? And don’t we often bring preconceived, petty expectations into God’s house? It is so hard for us to take the focus off of ourselves, and make a big deal out of God. That’s why we need so desperately today to ask God’s forgiveness for being so petty, so selfish and so narcissistic. That’s a big word that means “self worship”. Today, let’s not make a big deal out of “stuff.” Let’s make a big deal out of God. And not so much for what He’s done for us, but just for who He is.

Holy, holy, holy Lord God Almighty! The whole universe is full of Your glory!
