Saints among us

Standard

The other night I awoke during the night and could not get back to sleep. For some reason, an old friend came to mind. She was a secretary at a church I had once served.

As I thought about her life, the thought came to me that she was one of those people who is a testimony that what I believe, which is the truth proclaimed in God Word, is really true. Think about it. I think all of us know people whose lives radiate what it means to be like Christ. The fruits of the Spirit are evident. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control are the character traits that are exemplified in their lives. (Gal. 5:22)

This friend is only one of many. We all know saints like her. Their lives are a testimony to the truth of God. They prove to me that He exists, that He created the universe, that He loves us, that He sent His son to live and die for our sins, that He rose from the dead and will return again some day to finish what He exists to do.

And their lives convict us of how petty and selfish we are. It is so hard for most of us to really come to the place where living for God is the desire of our hearts. We’re driven by our own desires, seeking our own pleasures and wants, making bad mistakes and poor decisions and doing a pretty poor job exemplifying the fruit of the Spirit in our own lives.

Who are these people in your life? You know someone who proves that God is and that He loves you and He deserves your total surrender to His will and purpose. Let their testimony encourage us to surrender our lives to the will of Christ.

Praise God for these saints in our lives.
